Digital Radar detectors?

In my town the police have digital radar detectors according to my friend's uncle. This means that I need a digital radar detector, right? I was thinking of buying a radar detector, probably the Escort x50, but will this pick up these digital radars? And if I have a digital radar detector, will it pick up non-digital radar scanners? THANKS
