Digital psu for pc's?

Are there any digital psu coming out? Reading up on digital amps I see there are a few with 500w with no fan or heat issues, but nothing in the psu catagory.

Only guessing...Two years and low wattage for stone silence freaks & HTPC use.
Water cooled PSUs are out right now with more to come but cooling the PCB population
demands some air flow.

Iwill has a 2CPU board out that has no capacitors at all. It's digital.

Albatron has a limited edition board with solidstate aluminum capacitors and metalic MOSFETs.

Both are very efficient with little heat loss. Both are not inexpensive.

You can find the links yourself as I'm too lazy atm. 🙂

Hi, PSUs have been full of Digital circuits for years. That's what makes it a SWITCHING Power supply. They will improve over the years, but will probably never be pure Digital. Jim

The main limitations of PC SMPS' are prolly form factor and cost. 'tis befuddling that an innovative manufacturer cannot disregard the former and develop something to match the cost and performance of units integral to common and relatively inexpensive HT receivers which output 500W and more sans motorized cooling.

Make it as large as necessary with big arse heat sinks, but for external use, or even integrate with a custom case as well with all the components spread out on the top seperate from the rest of the PC guts.

Think of a 1U-ish design (flat and long) but nix the fans and double the height if necessary with heatsinks which also act as the top cover. Now think of something like that designed into the top of an Aspire X-Qpack type MicroATX case but now with extra room inside for other gear where the ATX unit would have been.

^Closest answer so far

Couple of questions for the OP:
[*]What do you mean by 'Digital Power Supply'?
[*]What is a digital amplifier? An Amplifier by definition is analog, not digital (although there may be some Digital->analog conversion involved before amplification but that has nothing to do with the "500W" amplfication)
[*]A typical amplifier contains a Power Supply, very similar to the ones in PCs. Are you really asking when a PC PSU will be able to match Amplifier PSUs in heat dissapation and noise?

yes to the last bullet point
