I had the "digital" prostate exam last Tuesday. That was some pain. I will not voluntarily have one of those again for about 25 more years (i'm 26 atm).

Anyway, the doctor determined that I had a prostate infection. The only symptoms I had (and still have) are the very frequent urge to urinate and the feeling like I'm leaking urine, even though I'm not. I've been on Bactrim since the appointment.

I was wondering how long does it take before these symptoms start to dissipate. I'll end up calling the doctor if these symptoms persist. I'm getting tired of going to the restroom every 2 minutes. :(

ask your doc to try you on a more potent antibiotic like cipro. google "prostatitis" and you can read up on it more.

did you go in for the above symptoms and that led to the intrusion?
Seems like 26 is too young to be getting probed annually by the Doc, you know :D

Yeah, I went in b/c I was having those symptoms. I was hoping it was just a bladder or urinary tract infection. I knew there was a possibility that I'd have the prostate exam, but thought "maybe not." Boy, was I wrong.

Do you think maybe the prostate infection might have been a cause of the pain? I had one done last year, and while it was kind of embarrassing and definately uncomfortable it wasn't painful. I just made like I was taking a dump, closed my eyes and it was over in a flash. (Yes, thats gross...but I figured if I 'fought' him on it, I would just be setting myself up for pain.)

Apparently I have an enlarged prostate. Which is odd since usually only older men seem to get that (I'm 23). But then again, I'm going bald already as well so maybe that kind of crap is just accelerated for me. I should probably get a urologist to check it out, the doctor said it was probably fine but I should have a urologist check it out just to be sure. But I'd have to go to my primary care guy and get him to write me a referal...which mean I'd likely have to get butt probed once to get the referal and again at the urologist. So you understand I haven't exactly been jumping up and down in anticipation of getting the ball rolling on that.

LOL, I thought the *exact* same thing. I well...to put it bluntly I injured my equipment by being a bit overzealous with my girlfriend. I decided I'd better get this checked out because I didn't want it to get infected or something, even though I was sure it would heal up on its own (which it did). I thought "Well...maybe they won't do that rectal exam...you know?" I was just lying to myself though, I knew that it was going to happen. But when it comes to the penis, you don't mess around. You swallow your pride and go to the doc. I didn't want that thing falling off or something.

I think that's why it was painful and uncomfortable (other than the fact that a man's fingers were up my ass)...

LOL. Got a little teary laughing at that one.

My doc actually said, and I quote. "Ok, take off your pants and I'm going to stick my finger up your butt."

I was like, damn, couldn't you at least spout some fancy med school words to make me feel a little better.
