Anybody ever buy one of these things? I think Sony makes one that's fairly nice, also fairly expensive! I'm sure I could hack together something for cheaper but it wouldn't be as small or look as nice.

Also I remember reading those iToasts can be hacked to become picture frames.. anybody have any sites on making some? Or reviews of any?

If you search in the notebook forum, someone asked about building one. They had links to a PC based one and a Mac based one that you could build. Maybe that'll help.

I'd much rather buy one. I can't think of a way to make it that would make it as compact and nice. The Kodak one that read straight off a CF card one was nice!

kodak smart picture frame hm.. $130 haven't called them if it's in stock.

Any others? Looks like most of 'em have been discontinued which means they'll be cheap!

No it means they are EXPENSIVE! Geeks had them for $99. Now they go for $350! \

On your link, clearly says "Item is no longer available"

Building one isn't really worth it, because you won't get quite the same effect. I was one of the unfortunate souls who bought a kodak one for $200+ with the subscription, gave it to my parents as a gift and then watched the kodak service go to hell 2 months later. I don't even think they have the service anymore, but not positive. I was going to make my own, but by the time you get the screen, work out the software, figure out how to power it, etc, just seemed like a waste of effort and $.

The Kodak unit was very well made - the cevia of the time seemed a little flimsy to me. The kodak one is in a decent quality wood frame etc. Sent you a PM - I'd be pretty open to selling it.

~$100

it's not big enough.... although I could get one and maybe get a video out CF card and then get a cheap LCD.... hm... but I think it'd be cheaper to build one from an old laptop.

I'm going to head over to weirdstuff tomorrow and see what they got.
