I plan on building a digital picture frame.
my idea is purchase an old laptop, like a 700mhz pIII machine for $100 off craigslist. needs wifi and vga out but other then that it can be pretty well stripped.
pair that up with a nice new $200 lcd, of course i will research for the best picture quality. likely i would take off the stand, because i dont want it to look like a computer screen.
pair the laptop on the back of the screen. i would take the screen off the laptop, but i dont think i would need to take the motherboard out of the case.
i would make a custom wood case for it to fit in, and the front can be bezeled with a real picture frame. hopefully i could keep it thin enough to look right hanging on the wall.
as long as it has wifi i could then setup some type of software on her desktop pc to add picture to the picture frame. this is what im looking for. something that she could just add pictures too, and it would send them over wifi to that frame. then the frame would shuffle pictures throughout the day.
i figure i could do all of this for less then $350. should be worth it, and should be easy enough to figure out some type of software since it would be running windows XP. also it would only consume maybe 70w when fully running, i think she would like it alot.
