Digital or Analog Synthesizer?

Which do you recommend? 88 key preferred.

And which brand and model? What's the best of the best, in terms of sound, recording ability and versatility in general?

Google wasn't helpful in this.

Digital are far more flexible at a lower cost. They don't always replicate certain desired analog characteristics properly however. For the most part, they are superior.

I would recommend a MIDI controller into a VST.

Go to a music store and mess around with the keyboards and synths. Also, go to the manufacturer's websites and listen to all of their demos. As IamElectro mentioned, it's all about your own personal taste and preference. It's subjective. I own a Roland JP-8000 and a Korg KARMA, but would like to pick up a NORD in the future.
