well im in the market of gettin a new thermosistor (external) for my cpu and a fanbus. now i COULD get a fanbus ($15) and a compunurse thermosistor ($15) and some switches, etc, but from what i know (which isnt much) the 8-fan digital doc monitors 8 attached fans and cpu temp......so here are the questions:
1) for the cpu monitoring, does it have a thermosistor similar to that of the compunurse?
2) for the fan monitoring, it says that you can "control" them: does that mean you can turn them on/off or can you also change speeds (through voltage regulation: 12v or 6v)
3) whats the grating on the side of it? is that like a 40mm fan or something?
4) can someone PLEASE explain this and/or provide a link with info?

;) thanks ;)

UPDATE: found out 2 things:
1) the grating DOES house a 40mm fan
2) it says that you shouldnt hook up 120mm or delta 60mm fans to it.....says itll fry; is that because of the power consumption? does that hold true for ALL 120mm fans? even the low rpm panaflos? thx

While I know that others have had better luck, my luck with the DD's hasn't been good. First I got a DD2 that just plain stopped working after about 5 days. I returned it and opted to pay an add'l $10 to upgrade it to a DD3. None of the temp sensors seem to work at all, the backlight display flickers like mad and the small fan on the DD has gotten loud. Overall, I'm disappointed.

o well that sucks....anyway, do you know if you can actually regulate fan voltage (like on a homemade fanbus)?

ya you can, with a switch and no resistors you can acieve 12, 7, or 5v of power, with a rheostat you can acheeve virtually anything

another option is resistors, but then each time you change a fan you need to redo ur fanbus

so do you know of any guides and/or stores which tell/sell the whole deal? (fanbus, switches, rheostat, etc)
i can also make one, if its cheaper

thx for the review link, but i still dont understand: can you or can you not adjust the fan voltage?

I don't think my DD problems are related to that Xeon... I only have 2 80mm fans connected to it. And that wouldn't explain why the temp sensors don't seem to work. At any rate, I'll probably yank it soon and just power the fans direct.
