Digital Cameras

Im trying to find a good digital camera. I am cheap and all I want is a camera that takes QUALITY photos. I dont care too much about how far it can zoom, lcd size, and all the other little features that boost prices. I know little about digital cameras, but I think that megapixels are important for image quality. And obviously memory is important too.

So I just want to ask if anyone knows what to look for in a digital camera. What means clear crisp image quality?
I payed 87 freeking dollars for a camera at Wal-Mart, and it took crap pictures. I took it back.

Unfortunately, the better cameras have more options that you may not want or need. A more expensive camera will have a better lens and flash and more megapixels which all translate to a better picture.

If you want to print out any of the pictures and possibly blow one up past 5x7, you will want one that is 3MP or greater. Canon, Nikon & Sony all make quality cameras. If you will never print and only view on the monitor, a 2MP will suffice but you will not be able to crop and blow up as well.

Most 3MP cameras will cost at least $250. Unless you can find a used one on Ebay, I think you will need to spend some dollars.

For $200 then the best would be the Canon A300. You shouldn't consider the camera's resolution as the main factor in buying a camera. That particular Argus camera received bad reviews due to clumsy/slow camera controls and subpar image quality, given the 5MP resolution. You get what you pay for. That's the only 5MP camera that costs less than 3MP cameras so you have to wonder it's quality. Most review sites provide sample pics of the cameras so you should check them out.

When I was shopping for my digicam I considered the Canon A300($200), A70($300) and Minolta Dimage S414($350). I ended with the A70 because the A300 is a crippled version of the A70 and the S414 had high power consumption compared to the competition.

For simple, good quality cameras, the Canon S200, S230, S400, SD100 are good. If you want something cheaper, the Canon Powershot A300 isn't bad for quality, but it isn't that good either and it doesn't really have any nice features. The Nikon Coolpix cameras are also good.

thanks guys.

umm... so should i just be reading the reviews and comparing brands and junk? or are there any good sites that compare digital cameras and junk?

thanks again.

ditto.

The lense on that 5mp will be very very poor. It will have very poor 'dim light' performance as the lense is so slow. I would have said low light but the lense on that camera is poor poor.

Get an A60 or something from Canon. For the money they are sweet cameras.
