Digital Cameras.. Advice..

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I've become intrested in acquiring a digital camera and i was wondering if anyone can point me to some resource or give me advice on what to look for in one. For now, price is not a major concern as i will save money but i have 0 clue on what features.. specs... to expect(and in what price range that would be located in). I know megapixels will determine the image quality (is the defacto standard now 5 megapixels?) What determines the storage capacity reguarding how many pictures can be held? What are the critical specifications and functions/features i should be looking for? A link or some info would be much appreciated. Thanks again.
 
thanks for some sites. WOW, shows how much i know... i had no clue prices went up to 10000$ for some cameras.

actually I've compaired $1000.00 cameras to $400.00 cameras, and the picture quality is the same and sometimes better.
 
hopefully i can snag one at the 400-500 price range. i really want to get into digital photography.
