Digital camera

My grandfather just gave me his old Canon A-1 film camera (I believe it's from the early 1980s). It makes great pictures, but I would much prefer to have them in digital format. So, instead of taking pictures, developing them, then scanning them in or whatever, I would like to purchase a new digital camera that accepts all of the accessories that he gave me with it. There are quite a few lenses, each worth $200 at least, plus a bunch of filters and two different types of detachable flashes. I'd love to be able to use these on a new camera. Any suggestions for under $900? Cheaper the better. (Student on a budget.)

I don't know what specific lense mount that A-1 has, but Canon makes the Digital Rebel XT which is the current DSLR from them in your price range.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable than me can chime in and say if those lenses will work or not.

my brother just ran into this same problem. My dad had a really nice cannon from the late 70's early 80's, with a bunch of very expensive lenses. My bro was hoping to get a digital camera that would work with these lenses (they dont make film for my dads camera anymore, shame too) And looked at the type and found a nice digital on ebay. But unfortunaely the lenses did not fit (not even close) even though both cameras were cannon, and the lenses were listed as the exact same type. Apparently somewhere along the line cannon changed the size of this line of lenses without changing the type name.

So i guess the moral of the story is to double check the lenses and accessories to be SURE they will fit and work with the digital.

Looks like it would require an adapter.

From wikipedia.org
The A-1 uses FD mounts, the newer style is EF.
