Digital Camera Question

I've narrowed my search down to either a Kodak or Cannon. I'm looking to spend $200 or less for the camera itself. I'm willing to spend additional on accessories. It's looks like it will be a 3MP camera. I've never had a digicam before, so I'm sure it will be enough for me.

Anyone have any suggestions from the Kodak/Cannon line fitting the above citeria? I've heard good things about the A75, but I've also been told by a friend that Kodak is more friendly for the first time digicam user.

Keep in mind I have no experience with Kodak, but I'd go with Canon A series (either A75 or A80).

Why?

2 Reasons:

1) Normal AA batteries. Most Kodaks I've seen use a special Kodak battery. Sounds like a money pit to me.
2) Canon has outstanding color. Most digital photographers agree they take the best shots in indoor light.

No I mean indoor. I have a Konica Minolta S414 that takes crummy pics indoors and perfect pics outside.

My Mom's Canon A300 (a much lower spec'ed cam) takes great pictures inside...

The new Kodaks are surprisingly good, yet still very easy to use for the first time digicam owner.

I can personally vouch for the DX-7440 - I think I paid about $250 - am very happy with all the pics I've taken with it, and this was about my 6th digicam. (this one was actually a gift for my mom, but I borrowed it for a vacation after seeing how much better the shots were compared to my older elph)

Anyone hear have any firsthand experience with a Kodak camera? I'm going to be going shopping with the wife probably next week. Most of the local stores are still restocking after Xmas.

Thanks! I'll look at the 3MP versions of Kodak.

Cannons often has a bundle with the printers. Print pictures without a computer.

Kodak hmmm has that dock. Which is a expensive dock.

CANNON!

I have had both Kodak and Canon digital cameras, starting with a Kodak 1 MP digital camera several years ago. IMHO, the Canon cameras have given me better pictures both in color and clarity.

Agreed. A few years back, I had a Kodak and a Canon G2 in my house at the same time. I ran around and took the same shots with both cameras. The Canon was clearly the leader. For the previous digital camera that I owned before these, I had another Kodak. I had to deal with their warranty repair/support center and it was a nightmare. In fact, it was so bad that Kodak bought the camera back from me.

Our Kodak 5940 or something works pretty well. It's a 5MP with 3.3x optical zoom. Takes pretty good pics indoors and outdoors but my wife and I are by no means expert photographers. We just take a lot of pictures of family and cats and stuff and wanted something better than the old point and shoot cheapie we used to have. I did break something in the memory card slot when I forced one in the wrong way. It now won't stay in unless the latch is closed. We paid $225 at compgeeks.com and it was a refurb. We've had it about a year and a half now and it's worked well.

My sister in law has a Canon A85 4MP camera. I like it a lot better. Feels more solid, the LCD screen is nicer, there are more options, and comparing the pics, I can tell a slight difference. The Canon's colors seem richer and the images are sharper. However her Canon was almost $400. You definitely get what you pay for, but I can't complain about our Kodak though...

We just got a DX7440 to play with at work. It sucks! Terrible color reproduction, underexposed shots, cheap construction. Buy a Canon!

I've owned/own both. Had a Kodak and now a Canon A75. The canon is much better. Much better picture quality, use of regular batteries which surprisingly lasts a whole hell of a lot longer than my Kodak would. The kodak software is junk too. The kodak was decent..but my A75 takes the cake. The LCD is bright and large. I like the fact that I can add a wide angle lens attachment onto it as well. Also had a Canon K2 Rebel SLR. That was a great camera as well. "Rahul" to whom I sold it to, made out like a bandit. Bottom line, Canon makes quality equipment. From cameras to their printers (Own a Canon printer too).

I'd take a Kodak camera over Sony. Kodaks are decent, but not the best. Canons are much better.

I have a Kodak.

Canon, hands down.

Canon > Nikon > Sony > Olympus > Fuji > Konica > Kodak > Panasonic > Pentax > Casio

Canons are better. They use better lenses. Buy a Canon. A75 is good for your price range. You'll be happy with it.

Edit: don't buy a camera based solely on ease of use for first time user. The A75 is simple to use. You will have no problem using it. it is very user friendly. But it also has options to get into when you want to try new things and expand your skills.
