fact is there are cameras that are priced the same that produce similar if not better pics, but for some reason peopel over look that, kinda like how everyone raves about the ipod when there are better alternatives out there

agreed... my wife just got an iPod and I can confirm it is the most highly overrated piece of hardware out there. if you have a PC, iTunes simply sucks...

I bought it 4 weeks after it was released, I needed a new digicam.
The fact that it used compact flash, and that the bateries were AA (which last a Fvking long time) were the deciding features.

Also the swivelscreen is really handy for shooting pictures above large crowds...

Given the choices available now, it would probably be a much tougher choice.

Oh please, don't turn into an anti-Canon Nikon fanboi just because you want to go against the grain & you own a Nikon DSLR.

Show me some cameras that are priced the same that produce similar if not better pics and that contain all the same features or more.

5 megapixels and the beauty is quite apparent from the shell to its large lcd screen on the back. Carl Zeis lens which means it guaranteed to take excellent pictures.

I have a Sony DSC-P100 waiting to arrive, unfortunately the first package seemed to "got lost" at the postal service, so they need to ship another package. :(

its cheap. uses aa's. reasonable quality sensor. canon is one of the generally good brands..

kodac = bad;)

and its not entirely about megapixels although they do matter. if the sensor quality is lousy and small in size, picture quality suffers.

If you're looking to get a new one, here's 3 good sites to check out:

Imaging Resource

Digital Photography Review

Steve's Digicams

Definitely try to figure out what you want a camera to do, then start getting pointers on which ones might be good for you. Then check the reviews, an overall good account of a camera by somebody might leave out a little detail found in a review which would frustrate you for the whole time you own the camera.

Maybe optically they produce similar pictures, but some manufacturers tend to compress the pictures more than others when they are stored on the memory stick. Some cameras adust for lighting better than others.
Plus there are different user interfaces. Take a look at the canon a75 (which i own) and see how long it takes to switch modes. Compare that with another brand and I guaruntee the canon wins out.

Many different aspects to a digital camera other than mage pixel and optical zoom.

I think staples or office depot has the a80 at $199 this week.

im not trying to start that and i listed 3 of them earlier in the thread

people need to get their scarcasm meter checked out again, that all seemed to have failed at once

Yes i own a Nikon SLR and DSLR but that has nothing to do with this, i dint say the a80 wasent a good camera, i just pointed out that its not THE ONLY camera

whenever someone asks about a camera 90% of you just shout canon, which is fine the make good products but someone should consider the options before buying what everyone says, they might like a different one more, i was just giveing him some options to consider

EDIT: and i also own a canon digital camera as well
