Which of these three would you choose? I'm leaning towards the A610, because I don't think I need the 7MP, but I could squeeze a few more bucks into the camera if it would last me longer. The A540 and A610 look pretty close, too.

With that camera I would favor the 620. The reason behind this is pretty simple...sure you might not always need 7 MP but with a 4x zoom camera you can always crop the image to simulate a digital zoom and not lose any detail beyond what you would have had with the 5 MP.

I'd suggest going to DPReview.com and checking out their Canon forum. This topic (especially A610 vs A620) has been beaten up to death there.

The point PurdueRy makes is valid, however, from what I understand A610 and A620 use the same size sensor, and with A610 having fewer MPs, that makes its images less noisy. Some of the samples do support this.

I've been thinking about these two cameras myself (I'm not considering A540) myself. And frankly, I'm leaning towards A610. The difference of $70-80 would cover a fast SD card and a case (I already have 3 sets of NiMH).

But, I not big on post-processing, and cropping the images. Hey, I barely remove red-eye :) In any event, definetely check the source I cited above. A wealth of information.

Hope this helps.

OK, After reading a lot of reviews and forums (thx AlexV) of these two cams, I'm going with the A610.
This site seems to be the only one that reviewed BOTH the A610 and the A620, so I was able to side by side compare them. Looking at the image quality, chromatic abberation, and ISO quality I decided to go with the A610 and put the $80 into a larger SD card, case, and NiMH batteries.
Thanks for your help and votes!

The main reason I bought A610 over A620 is because I can able to print 8 x 10 and if I want more resoultion I can jack up more with Photoshop to make it look like 7.0MP.
I used A520 it was nice small size camera but I pick A610 over A520 because A520 is old model with old DIGIC processor A610 and A620 use new DIGIC 2 processor.

A620. always better to be future-proof; besides, you can always size-down but never size-up.
