As much as I love Paul Simon, I gotta go with Canon. I've had 3, and my next will be a Canon DSLR.

Canon A480. It was cheap and is reasonably good. If I ever feel like burning the money, I'll upgrade to an SDXXXX.

Canon Powershot G3
Canon Powershot SD600
Canon Powershot SD990
Canon Digital Rebel T1i w/ Canon 18-55 IS, Canon 55-250 IS, Canon 50/1.8, Canon 28/1.8

I think it's time to buy a 3rd party lens 😀

ya... I am inclined towards SD1400 IS right now...

G11... expensive and too big carry around in pocket without looking funny 😉

Try the S90. It's a good medium. SD1400IS is small. Very small. Or try a SD990. BTW, the 1300/1400 just came out so Id on't know how good they are but the SD1200 scored VERY high in reviews. I looked at a lot of 100% crops (yes we SLR owners are pixel peepers), and the SD1200 beats a lot of the more expensive Canon P&S (the ones that feature HD Video and crap). The optical quality is top notch especially when you consider the $149 price tag.

My main P&S is a Canon G9 and I love it. It is heavy, but the picture quality is great for a P&S and the DSLR like ability to make adjustments makes all the difference. Doesn't hurt that I can throw on my speedlight from my DSLR setup when needed (although it gets a little awkward in use).

I bought my wife a Nikon for christmas (don't remember the model...in the ~$200 range). I've been pretty disappointed with it overall. Might be that i have too high a standard and was expecting more. Sure it takes pictures...but not very good ones in the auto modes. The flash is useless. This is just our party camera for my wife to tote around and take random pics without the bulk of my equipment or worry that it will be damaged. Regardless, not impressed.

I'm a Canon fanboi so that's what I voted for but there really isn't a whole lot of difference between Canon and Nikon. They both make excellent cameras and lenses. You couldn't really go wrong with either one IMO.

Non-SLR = none. I own a Nikon D40.

I have a Canon XSi and a Canon SX20 sitting at my desk at work. Both take some great pictures.

This poll is pretty useless without Panasonic included.

Canon and Panasonic are the best bets for a compact digital camera. Sony, Fuji and Casio can be good (depending on the model). I would pass on the rest.

My parents have a Canon. I currently don't have a non-SLR digital camera; the last one I had was a Canon G11. I might pick up a micro-4/3rds camera pretty soon when I don't want to lug around the D700.

What do you like better? D40 or Canon XSi?
I know they are different classes, but I honestly have never used a Nikon DSLR other than in a store for 2min.
