Looks like the rebate will work! Dosn't say anything about "certified resellers" or anything.

This makes the deal hotter even hotter!

Dont know if this going to work... details of the msn rebate says product must have the text "Get your MSN Holiday Reward". This page doesn't have it.

From the Panasonic rebate stipulations:

<< Send a copy of your store-identified cash register receipt, with the camcorder purchase price circled. Please keep a copy of your receipt for your records. >>

. . . cash register receipt??? . . . What about online?

EDIT: Not to further rain on your parade but the MSN site stipulates:

<< Products from participating stores will be labeled Get your MSN Holiday Reward. >>

I don't see that label anywhere for this product.

Anyone please clarify this.

Also ... can someone tell me how this unit performs under low light ? Most of my video is at home ... I would hate it if it was too grainy. Thanks !

I haven't opened my box yet - it is doubtful they are "low light" DVCs. There isn't that much difference between the PVDV51 and 101 to justify the extra $44 I spent. I am waiting to open my box to see what CC does tomorrow morning. (I can let you know about "low light" when I eventually unpack it.)

Does ANYONE know the answer to my questions raised regarding both rebates? If either one doesn't work, I'd much rather keep my DVD from CC.

How does this camera compare with the recent Amazon deal Canon ZR-10 for $350? I am asking how the deals compare and how do the cameras compare. Thanks in advance for any info.

So, it looks like this deal isn't "real" as presented.

(?)

Anyway, I will go back to CC to exchange my PVDV101 for a $44 cheaper PVDV51. I really don't see any real difference between the two other than 18x vs. 20x optical zoom and a serial port for transferring still photos.

Unless someone here cares to comment . . .

I believe the DV101 has a mic input, whereas the dv51 I know for sure doesn't. Not having a mic input is a serious flaw design, since your recordings will "look" excellent but scream amateur when you hear them. *UGH*

THANK-YOU!!!

The 101 DOES have a mike input. I just couldn't find any info on the dv51. (Panasonic's site sux in comparing models.)

I will keep the 101 - from where I am still not sure.

On one hand, I have CC's 12 months free interest for $444 after "guaranteed" CC MIR. On the other, I have $475 (including shipping) with MAYBE a $50 Panasonic MIR and MAYBE a e-shop promo of $80. (When I went directly to the e-shop, there was no "holiday savings" atached to this camera. I also see this is still hotly debated in another thread.)

Oops, my bad.

I just opened the box and read the manual. (CC has no "open-box" fee)

There is NO microphone input. All audio is recorded with the built-in twin capsule mics.

Also, the panasonic warranty is 1 years Parts and 90-days labor!

So, it back to CC in the am - I would just go for the $44 cheaper DVC since I am not interested in anything more than "home movies". An entry-level DVC is fine for me (UNLESS anyone can point out features the 101 has over the 51 that is worth $44).

That sucks. I cannot believe Panasonic has no mic input for the DV101. That is just unprofessional of them. I wonder how far up the line DV??? does it go before they give you the mic input option? Geez...

Well, I returned the 101 for the 51 at CC on Friday.

Total was 449-50MIR=$399 (12 months interest free financing).

Both camers are identical EXCEPT for the 101 has 20x digital zoom and the 51 has 18x. The 101 comes with a serial cable to download stills to your PC the 51 doesn't. Neither comes with firewire cables included (glad I took advantage of CC's Actiontek Firewire Card/software/cable free after rebate a few months ago).
