I posted this in Peripherals with no answer.

Can anyone recommend a good value pair of 2.1 speakers with digital input?

I'd like to match this up with my onboard nForce 2 MCP-T sound.

How about a cheap reciever and some standalone speakers (unless space is a concern). The only digital PC speakers I can think of are 4\5\6.1.

he probably doesn't have a place to put satellite speakers behind him.

you're going to need a DAC (digital-to-analog convertor) to do that. It'll be easier, just do that and get analog speakers.

Space is an issue... but I'd rather get 5.1 than a 2.1 with a reciever.

So how come there aren't any digital 2.1 speakers?

Because it doesn't really make any sense to produce them. A digital 2.1 system doesn't have any benefits that an analog 2.1 set has. Technically speaking there is no such thing as a 2.1 speaker system as there is no seperate sub/LFE channel for any 2 speaker PC speaker set with a sub since the speakers themselves determine the crossover, not the audio source. All stereo audio is run through the sub which is factory set at some crossover with everything else sent to the satellites.

I was thinking by using a pair of digital 2.1 speakers I can get better sound quality by bypassing Realtek audio codec.
