Digicam Help and Recommendations

My folks are going on a trip and want to get a digital camera they are insisting on getting a 5 mega-pixel one. After looking around there are 4 that I?ve found:

Olympus E20N
Nikon CoolPix 5000
Minolta Dimage 7
Sony CyberShot DSCF707

I have been all over several camera review sites and have come to the conclusion of either the Olympus or the Nikon (didn?t like some of the reviews for the Minolta and don?t like the idea of proprietary overpriced memory). So if some of the more informed digital camera owners out there give me some advice as to which one. Mind you, that my decision is not set in stone if you feel the Minolta or the Sony is the best bang for the buck let me know. Also if someone would be so kind as to list the MAJOR factors in a digital camera and explain in lay terms what they are, after reading specifications there is hundreds of which I?m not sure which are the most important.

One more thing... (taken from Steves-digicams.com about the E20N)

<< Featuring a unique dual mode image capture capability: the Interlaced Scan mode allows for 5 Megapixel (effective) resolution to capture images with the highest possible detail. The Progressive Scan mode of 2.5 Megapixel (effective) resolution is for capturing fast-paced action or when shooting in very bright light, it extends the shutter speeds up to 1/18,000 second>>

I think I got the gist of this, but is this an important factor or not?

Do they know that a five megapixel camera is going to run several thousand dollars? If they are just going to be taking snapshots on their trip they don't need that kind of power. The Nikon Coolpix series is your friend.

Not that much. The most expensive one is the E20N for ~2200 retail but you can find it for ~1400. Maybe after extra memory cards/batteries/etc it could run that high.

They are going on a cruse (a trip that they might not take again) and want to make sure their pictures come out good. Biggest fear for them is to take the pics and find out they didnt turn out AFTER they get home. As for the 5 mega pixels they just want the best quality they can get.
