:D

Just a quick question. How do you take photos in the dark without using the flash?? I mean, just taking a pic with low light, say, maybe the street lamp. I don't wanna use the flash becasue it's pratically useless when I walk out now to take a pic of the streets. Are there any adjustments I can make to take good night shots?? I'm using a Canon S200. :)

I don't think there's an easy way of getting that type of picture with a digicam. Maybe shine a really really bright light from far away, which won't make the object too bright but will brighten up the whole picture by just a bit so you can see what's going on.

I'm not familiar with that camera, but in general you want to up the ISO, use the smallest f value you can, and find some kind of support to steady the camera because your shutter speed will be really slow.

Something else you can do, if your subject will be absolutely motionless, is to use a tripod, and make multiple exposures, and then use software to put them all together. This will let you use a lower ISO for less noise, and a higher f value, but your shutter will still be slow. What is it you're trying to photograph?

in the menu set to long exposure

in the exposure menu, set the exposure and the shutter time

use a tripod

set a 2 second delay to get your hands away from the camera and the camera still before the shutter opens

You should get something like this <- my car on halloween dusk btw

I use a s330 btw, so ajustment may differ

tripod and long exposure.

prolly around 2-3 seconds. Set your ISO to 400 or so. the higher the better.

Higher rated film speed is good for low light situations.

Slower film speed is for outdoor/sunny situations.

Long exposure + tripod is the only way to go. Do not set the ISO too high or your pics will get too grainy, it is better to set the exposure higher.

push the WB button until you get to the exposure screen.

make sure you're in manual mode

if you have long exposure chosen, then you can press up in down on that screen to change the shutter speed, and left and right to change exposure
