DIGIC 5 Realworld Performance?

So, the claims are 6x speed and 75% less noise. Are there any example photos somewhere showing the same image taken with a DIGIC4 body and DIGIC5 body.

Regardless of DIGIC generation, the rest of the camera contributes a lot. I'd wait for a side by side test with models you are interested in.

I will saw each DIGIC generation brought almost all improvements. Their way of measuring that 6x/75% may be a bit optimistic.

Someone over at dpreview.com posted side-by-sides between the SX30 (4) and the SX40 (5). You might take a look over there. This was back around the first of October, IIRC.

I always thought the Digic stuff was meant for processing speeds and autofocus speed(the autofocus of the viewfinder and screen, not the autofocus of the lens). Basically allowing us to take faster pictures and such without losing quality.

I don't know, I may just be making stuff up.

DIGIC is a combination of the hardware and software.

It's main thing has been speed between shots and autofocus time for me. Shooting RAW takes the software out of the mix a bit.

In most canons the Digic does handle the focus too. (7D and 1D series have a separate focus cpu).

Remember the digic is really in essence a generic streaming processes bought in from fujitsu or somewhere and programmed up by canon, its probably identical under the hood to nikons expeed or whatever.
