Digg Effect- Need a New Webhost Quick

To put it short, my website, gsreview.com, is on the home page of Digg! And as a result, it's now down.

I need a new web host. For a website receiving such huge traffic, should I consider getting a dedicated server? How much bandwith will I need?

I like how your page says "This site is temporarily unavailable. Please notify the System Administrator." but doesn't say who that is or where to contact him.

I'm not familiar with the Digg site, but if it's anything like Fark, you probably won't have to worry. The traffic to your host will dwindle over the next couple days and you won't have any more troubles.

Until the next time they link to you.

If you can find out from your host provider the number of hits per hour your site gets while being linked to Digg, it will help a lot in determining what you need to provide for that many users. Right now it's pretty much a complete shot in the dark as to what will solve your issues.

Bingo.

If you plan on getting linked places more and more, get a dedicated server. The site I work for (see sig) went from a shared server (one link on slashdot killed the whole server, someone had to manually reboot it), to a dedicated Celeron server (I think Digg killed that one), to a dual Xenon server (Some combination of Digg+Slashdot+Inq killed that). So now we need a cluster....:Q

You should be just fine w/ this.

Thanks for the help. Have you had good success before with the Digg effect and this host?

I know it can handle the traffic bandwith wise, but can the servers hold up to the strain put on the server by tens of thousands of hits in a short period of time?

Remember, I killed HTTP and MYSQL on a shared server with these specs:
3.0GHz P4/1GB DDR with a 100Mbit connection

I've heard Dreamhost will sometimes make special provisions for you if you receive the Digg effect, but not if it happens frequently!
