Difficulty shutting down Windows XP

I just made a new computer system a little less than two months ago, and I'm having a problem shutting down the computer. Here are the basics of what I'm running (details available on request of course).

Athlon 64 3000
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
1 Gig of RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro
Wireless Internet connection (Buffulo USB Adapter)

When I press "Shutdown" in the start menu I get a message that there has been an error, and would I like to submit the details to microsoft? Then the second time I try to press "shutdown" it works and brings up the shutdown menu.

At this point if I select "shutdown" the computer just goes back to the desktop and appears to do nothing. Then (and I stopwatched this) 3 minutes and 20 seconds later the computer actually turns off.

This is a long time to wait!!!

Anyone ever experienced anything like this? Any ideas?

Could be a number of things, some printer drivers are my #1 suspects. Have you patched your system lately?

What does your eventlog say about all this? Run MPS Reports and send me the resulting .cab file. See my .sig's URL for more information on how-tos.

Does this issue happen in safe mode?

Update your MSI CoreCenter software. (http://careers.computing.net/w...ard/forum/100932.html)
..or just uninstall it.

Uninstall Padus ASPI, MusicMatch, and any other software that might have put a file called AFS2K in place (it's CDROM software of some sort).

Uninstall & remove Acronis Snapshot.

Uninstall & remove Logitech mouse/keyboard software.

Does the issue still happen after you've done all that, rebooted, and retested?
