Different Speed With Higher Multiplier

Hey I have a question for my quad core cpu. When I have it at 11x multiplier it runs fast obviously. When I have it at 12x multiplier it runs slow like I notice the responsiveness has gone down noticeably. The temp only increases to 50c at normal temp. I havent tried to tax it at 12x. When I have it at 11x it runs at 50c under load. But even with normal or below load at 12x it slows. Does this have anything to do with the voltages. I have it on stock voltage with either the 11 or 12 multiplier.

I'm guessing you are referring to a Q6600 or Q6700? My understanding was that the multiplier on Intel processors could only be changed downward, not upward. However, I have heard rumors that the multiplier is completely unlocked between 8-11. This could account for why things seem to get better until you hit a 12x multi.

However, I'm wondering why you would increase the multi and not work at increasing the FSB?

its the qx6700 and those multipliers are completely unlocked. well I had seen other people post that only by changeing the multiplier they had gotten to the same speeds but without the slowdown

no, if he has a Core2 Extreme Quad-core (QX6700 or QX68X0), then the multiplier is unlocked upwards as well.

I didnt want to mess with the fsb because of certain memory problems which I am sorting out now. So I only played with the multiplier. Would that be the cause of the problem?
