Is it flickering like a slow refresh or is it waving like it is being effected by EMI? Do you have another computer that you can hook it up to and test it, or could you try moving the computer to a totally differnt room and try it there. If it is EMI then moving it can solve the problem, as well as moving any sort of pencil sharpners and what not. But often there can be stuff in your ceeling or on the other side of a wall that causes a large enough electro-magnetic field to effect your monitor from far away. Even in a new apartment there could be the same issues (as well as any little items that you moved along with you.)

What would help the most is to reduce possibilities. Use a differnt computer to see if it is the monitor, use a differnt video card in the same computer to see if it is the card, and so on. Once you know for sure exactly where the problem lies it will be easier to troubleshoot the problem.

Couple of links for your info about this board. Some unhappy campers:

A7V8X-X issues

Also, try amdmb.com. They have an Asus forum. If you do a search in the Asus forum
for a7v8x-x, you'll see lots of posts. Of course, you can post your issue there as well.
These are Asus owners and some experts. Forums at amdmb.com
(might have to register to do a search)

Of course, people only post problems who have problems. So, doesn't mean a particular board is bad
universally. But lots of posts about issues with this board.

Edit: Additionally, there are some other things you can try. I took a look at some Google pages about this motherboard. Seems you can actually adjust the AGP voltage in the bios. The default is 1.5V for this card and this board, but you can tweak it up a bit (your choice). Maybe 1.6v as an experiment. Also, look in the bios to see if there's anything about "Spread Spectrum", which, if enabled, is meant to limit ElectroMagnetic radiation. This kind of radiation (EMI) can interfere with monitors. One thing you still don't know for sure is if this is a video issue, a motherboard issue, or a monitor issue. Your board is an AGP 8X board, and there is a lot of stability issues with ATI cards on these boards. Rage3d.com has lots of posts about it.

I can't offer any help, but I am very interested in the solution if you ever figure it out. I'm running a Samsung 19" something-or-other (quite old) with an ATI Radeon 9600 video card on an ECS K5S7A mobo and I get the same shimmy. Sometimes it's worse that other times, but it's almost always detectable.

So, in the interest of yours AND my sanity, let's keep this thread alive until a solution can be posted!!

Good luck to you (and subsequently to me!)

Since my computer at home does nothing but reboot incessantly, I am replying from work.
I just ordered a new mobo and RAM. I spent quite some time at AMDMB when I was o/c'ing
the mobo last summer (back to 1.83 now) but never so many error posts as I recently saw. I'll let you
all know if the new mobo fixes it. GreatRewards, I'll keep in touch. By Saturday, I'll have an idea. ;)

The motherboard arrived last Friday, but the memory was delayed to today. Hopefully, the machine will be up and running by tonight (it better, i've got two papers to work on) I'll let you all know the results as soon as I can verify them. :)

What model is it (DIAMONDTRON is the NEC CRT used)?
Is it a Iiyama, NEC, HP, etc...?

The shaking/flickering may just be the caused monitor itself.

Did you try it on another PC (didn't notice any reference to you doing that)?

I tried a different monitor, and the problem remained. I should have made a reference to that. In any case, I recently installed the NF7-S, hooked everything together, and...nothing comes up on the screen. The monitor light (green) just blinks at me. But nothing shows up on the screen.

Now, I also bought an Antec P160 case, which has two minor problems with it: no PC speaker, and the PowerLED is only two-pin (the PC powers up, but the led at the front doesn't blink, nor does the HDD light.) Of course, without the PC speaker, there are no diagnosis beeps, so that leaves me a bit in the dark. Also, there are two LEDs on the motherboard. When the switch from the power supply is on, one LED is red. When the actual power is turned on from the front, the other LED shows up green. Is that red supposed to be red? Any ideas why nothing would be showing up on the monitor? I really hope it isn't a DOA. ;)

EDIT: 1GB of Mushkin PC3200 2-2-2 Special is installed on slots 1,2. But I've read that it should be 2,3 or 1,3. I'll try that fix later, but would that cause the machine to not boot up? Also, I just read that the red light is fine. My hard drive is still partitioned with WinXP on it. Could that be a problem?

Rearranging the memory didnt help. Finally attached an old PC speaker, and am getting long intermittent beeps, continuously.
I'll check the Abit NF7 forums for some info. Any one have this problem before?

Hmm..it might be a memory problem. I'll throw some PC2700 tonight and see if that fixes it.

Are you using the same power supply with the new mobo as with the old mobo?
I just wonder if the problem could be there?
From what i have read i dont think so but.....

I've tried different power supplies, one Antec, one Enermax, to no avail. :( I've tried Samsung PC2700 memory, and still no solution.
