Not exactly. Don't forget your IEEE-1394 ports that come with the platiniums. Just thought I'd add that, especially since it looks like the "Firewire" is going to be common soon. Other than that I LOVE my Audigy!

no no no.
even the oem Audigy has 1394 port, you can see from newegg's pictures.
all retail cards are the same card from live mp3+/x-gamer/platinum age.
the oem card is also same as retail card but plastic jacks instead of gold plated jacks.

<< So do the plastic jacks make any difference at all folks??? >>

Same question as above .

From a manufacturing standpoint , I can't really see it costing less for the plastic jacks but I suppose even "1 penny" is alot to the manufacturer if they want or need to cut costs .

Thx CorCentral...

I was referring to sound quality though, not maunfacturing process. More specifically, is there a real sound difference between a gold plated connection and a plastic connection? If anyone can answer this from experience, that would be great. Thx.

stephpar ............. No , I want to know the same question you asked ;)

In my post , I was just providing "why" I thought the OEM had the plastic jacks (cheaper to manufacture ?)

As for sound Quality/Performace ............. I would like to know if there's a diff.

I used to have both the gold jacks and normal jacks of the Live series. The difference is un-noticeable(sp?). I don't see any improvements on getting a gold jack sound card.

There shouldn't be any noticable difference (to the human ear) between the gold and normal jacks. As long as you have a good electical connection, the sound quality should be the same. I think gold is supposed to be less corrosive with time so that it's possible if you live in a salty environment, the normal jacks might get a layer of oxidation on them that would affect the sound -- but all you need to do is to clean off the oxidation and it's good as new.

I think the gold connections are really just for marketing purposes. I actually like the normal colored connections better because it makes it easier to connect my cables (I don't have to remember which is the output and which connector is the input -- it's all color coded)

:Do you guys think that the Audigy series apart from the Audigy Platinum is better than lets say the GTXP or Fortissimo II cards. I am still pondering the idea of getting the GTXP because of the accessibility ie optical, headphones. I am using an INWIN server case and its a pain to go behind it to change from amp to headphones, plus if you know is it a good idea to hook up my Razor mouse to the USB of the outbox.

In the end however the most important to me is compatibility with WIN2K and sound quality.

Hope to get some feedback
Thanks
