Differences between the 360 and PS3

From the specs that every one has seen from these two which on is more power as for as specs go. I don't really understand all the stuff in consoles.

PS3 = more CPU power i hear , more features , Blu-ray , 3 Gigabit nic for god knows what + wifi , HDMI support : Top games to look out for : Metal Gear Solid 4 , Final fantasy , Devil May Cry , GT , Killzone 2
XBOX = better GPU for TV , cheap , rock solid online Xbox live , can play video/music of network , integrated Media center 2005 support , better controller : Halo 3 , Blue dragon , lost odyssey , project gotham , perfect dark zero , Dead or Alive 4

Both will have : Resident Evil 5

Which one ... I don't know but if killzone 2 or Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay/graphic is any close to what shown at e3/tgs then i would get that but i highly drought it.

What i am buying this month : XBOX 360

if you get XBOX 360 then I highly recommend you buy the Premium pack + Perfect Drak Zero + dead or alive 4 + PG 4

I think at the end of the day, the PS3 will have slightly more power overall. But John Carmack put it nicely when he recently noted that developing on the 360 was much easier and said, "PS3 is probably marginally more powerful, in terms of raw flops and graphic operations, but that's not really the best way to look at things. When you look at these development cycles that stretch over years and years, being 20% easier to develop on is much more important than being 20% more powerful." .

Btw, the KZ2 video at E3 was definitely pre-rendered (with the game engine) and the debate is still out on MGS4, although if it is pre-rendered, I believe that's pretty close to actual gameplay footage. Either way, it bugs me that Sony won't say if they are pre-rendered or not. About KZ2 they said something like, "It's exactly what the gameplay will look like."

Except for Halo and maybe Final Fantasy all those games sound really, really craptacular.
PDZ and Project Gotham 3 looks "really craptacular"??? Are you joking? Have you seen the videos? Gran Turismo on the PS3 is almost a guaranteed success, as well.

(Edited because I found John Carmack's exact quote.)

PS3 in pretty much every raw spec. That said, the PS2 whips the GC in pretty much every raw spec this gen and the Cube absolutely throttles it where it counts. Not saying that will happen again- just pointing out that the raw power of the consoles don't always tell the whole story.

Do you have any links to new PD footage Wingz? In all honesty the last vid clips I saw, from MS, made it look like an extremely sub par title for this generation. With all of the issues Rare has been having on the gameplay front for the last few years, I have yet to be so let down by the presentation of one of their titles.

Here's a 180mb (8 minute) video, which was just released yesterday or so.

And yeah, I definitely agree that it's not the most impressive visually... But I certainly wouldn't term it "craptacular."

Since they're both different, each company and its fanbois will claim theirs is the most powerful. We should know by Christmas '06 or sooner. Couple of months after PS3 launch to let people start to become objective about it.

I'll get a next-gen console sooner or later. I've got no loyalty to any of the brands, so trying to pin down now which will be most powerful doesn't matter whatsoever. Content to see for myself when the real hardware and prices are available. Even then, it's the overall system and games that matter more. If you HAVE to decide now for some reason, flip a coin I guess. Or just go with 360 since it'll cost the same or less and be in your hands at least 6 months earlier. Or go with both 🙂 And throw in the Revolution 🙂

The specs are all impressive. Both are very impressive.

GT5 online, MGS4 and next gen Tekken 😀.

HOPEFULLY Sony will make their online service GOOD and not the lame ass 'thing' that is on the PS2. No 'standard' interface at all and support 😛

I honestly dont care which one is going to be more powerful, because all consoles do is play games. The Xbox360 is comming out in 3 weeks and since my dad worked on it at IBM, I get a free one 😉. I am considering the PS3 just because it is a Blu-ray disk player and can run at 1080p, though I doubt it can do 1080P at the 120fps Sony has claimed.

Anyways, the best thing consoles are good at are sports games and computers arent that great at any sport game.

It would be very surprising if the PS3 wasn't at least marginally more powerful. A later release almost always means more technical power, unless it's Nintendo who marches to the beat of its own drummer (and is actually much more profitable than Sony's Playstayion division or Microsoft's Xbox division). From the Super NES>Genesis to N64>PS1 to Xbox1>PS2 in technical power, the last to launch in any given generation usually has at least a technical edge, though rarely catches up in a business sense.

If any of them are cracked, it will most likely be the first revisions of the mobo. MS made constant changes to the first Xbox to make modchips tougher... the first ones are still the easiest to mod. So buy the 1st revision!

Cube: 485mhz
PS2: 300mhz

Cube: 48mb total vid/sys RAM
PS2: 32mb total vid/sys RAM

I think its obvious why the Cube throttles it

dude if you believe that 1080P @ 120FPS @ the level of graphic kK was talking about then you are a .... KK is an idiot and if you believe that idiot , then that makes you one too.

good point, Ill have to think about snagging one early. 🙂

Difference:
Xbox 360 has 3 CPU cores (2 are JUST for the video card, it's confirmed, the other is for games, making it easier to program for) and a good looking video card

PS3 has like...7 cores? So it will be much better in the CPU department IF developers program for the cores. The video card is similar to a 7800gtx, so it's nothing special, but still good.

Not only that, but Sony has a bigger fan base, and more games (and different games)...which COULD change since some developers are switching to 360.
Both will be great systems, IMO, though I think the 360 will not have as good as games.

Confirmed? I hope you aren't referring to a theinquirer "article".

kaka.. Metal Gear Solid 4 all the way.......
gameplay is not an issue anymore. It's all about the stories!!!
Every genre has a 'greatest' game for that genre. In the end, it's the stories that matter 😱 I wish Kojima would make an FPS T_T FEAR lacked quite a bit.

Actually the Xbox has 3 cores and the PS3 has 1 + 7 "SPE"s. Xbox people would point out that the Xbox has 3 general purpose processors, whereas Sony has a much more complicated design with only one core capable of doing many important things like AI. In pure theoretical numbers the Cell seems faster, but it doesn't matter if game developers can't figure out how to use the SPE's for much. On the other hand Sony's stature means that it is almost impossible that the PS3 won't sell a ton and when there's a market as big as Sony will have, developers will probably just suck it up and figure it out, probably meaning that the PS3 could develop an advantage later on. It's still up in the air and even developers by no means agree which is a better solution, making definitive statements is impossible.

PS I'm a Madden die hard, but 06 on the 360 looks very unimpressive to me. Take a look at some of the more recent screenshots and it just looks terrible. I can't wait for something approaching the prerendered stuff they released a long time ago and where they finally solve all the physics/animation problems, etc. but this year I wouldn't count on it.

These screenshots look "terrible"? No, they aren't just like the pre-rendered stuff... But I think "terrible" is quite an exagerration.

EDIT: Here's a new (138mb) video, released today.

nice, ill be getting it

The one thing that turns me off from the PS3 is its controller. It looks so unconfortable and hard to use..
