Evenin fellers,

Im looking at building a lan box using the soldam pandora box and I like the acrylic faceplates it uses. Now, Ive got the pioneer slot load dvd but would kill for a slot load cdrw. Now, there arent any that I can find for PC, but the Macs have one (8x4x24, plenty for a lanbox) thats made by Panasonic and is ATAPI. I have no clue about anything Mac other than playing around on them for DV from time to time. Whats the differences between the Mac and PC drives?? Is there a way to use the Mac drive in a pc?? Im REALLY interested in finding out but dont have 160$ to play with if it doesnt work. ;) Any info would be greatly appreciated!

If it is ATAPI then it will work in either a PC or a Mac.

Macs use either standard IDE or SCSI drives depending on the vintage of the Mac. Nothing magical about them.

Groovy, thats about what I expected. Its for the slot load Imacs so its fairly new and wouldnt be scsi. The other thing, would any PC burner software recognize the drive? Couple of sites say it works with the Mac software under os9. But, my acer cdrw is just recognized as an ATAPI drive (no model, etc) under w2k and works just fine. Wouldnt it be the same for the Panasonic?

That's the $60,000 question. You could try e-mailing the author of the CD burning software to see, since it's a Mac model they probably wouldn't list it on their site for PC's, but then again they might.

What software do you plan to use?

I use nero on my pc and toast on my g4. I swapped my Ricoh 8x8x32 ide cdrw from the pc to the g4 and continued to burn.

Alright! kd7, thats what I like to hear.

Workin, right now Im using the latest Roxio since I can get it through the univ free. Its whats running in all our labs on burners from lite-on, iomega, acers, NECs, etc. Since kd7 switched his burner between his pc and mac Im pretty confident that they inverse would also be true. Thanks for the info guys!
