Differences between Audigy sound cards?

I see Newegg has the oem Audigy for $62. Are there any differences between the gamer, mp3+, oem other than the software bundle?

Thanks,

Tom

Same question has been posted before. Use search.

The only difference is in the gold connections for retail. And different software packages for gamer and mp3.

I noticed that your rig is running win2k and has onboard sound. I'm guessing this is an upgrade.... I highly recommend against the audigy in your case. This card has known issues with win2k and XP, very very bad issues, and getting it isn't worth it. The card could be completely useless if you get it.

Try to find a Santa Cruz, Acoustic Edge, or Gametheater card.

Do you have one of these cards running under W2K/XP or are you just another parrot trying to dish out advice based on something you have read?? I have an Audigy card running right now in XP and I have not had any problems at all. I had a Live! card before running on a mobo with the VIA chipset and I never had any of the problems talked about either.

this was in the anand news section, the problem isn't fixable. I have never had a VIA problem, but there are many cases of this audigy issue. It doesn't happen for everyone, but its not smart to get one. I would never say there is a known problem just based on my experience.... need many people to find that out.

I've got an Audigy too, and I haven't had any problems in win2k or winxp. In fact it sounds a ton better than my live in my other computer does.

ya know, I find it amazing that no matter what question regarding the Audigy is posted, some anti-Creative zealot will always chime in to plug his own useless .02.

tjdavis,

Back to your original question, I have all three versions of the Audigy running under WinXP. They all work great.

Gamer = game bundle
MP3+ = Recording software
OEM = just Driver CD

Physically, the OEM has color-coded plastic/tin connectors vice gold plated ones found on the retail versions. Other than that, the cards are identical.

No problems here and I have 3 Audigy's 1 retail and 2 OEM's running on 2 Athlon XP's (MSI K7T266 Pro2) and the other one running on a Dell (Intel 810) at work. All machines are running XP Pro.

The only thing I might recommend is do a driver only install. Creative is getting as bad as Real wanting to take over every file association ever created...and then grab the XP update off of soundblaster.com...

You my friend, can label yourself as an ignorant zealot.

The audigy is a great card, and works fine in all my friends 2k and XP rigs

What the hell are you talking about? No one was recommending anything. He was asking a simple question about the difference between the cards. None of the other posts would have been made if you didn't plug in your useless anti-Creative banter. It was you that started all this.
