Differences between AT and ATX PSUs, and can an AT be "turned into" an ATX one?

I have an old AT PSU, and a dead ATX PSU. i also have a computer i want to get up and running, but need an ATX PSU (it's an Abit KT7)

Is there any major differences between the AT and ATX, and would it be possible with the old ATX supply and the motherboard connector make an ATX one out of the two, sorta like a frankenpsu.

I think its better to go and buy a good case (with lots of fan slots on it) and a good 350W power supply and you are all set... It wont cost you much and it will save you the trouble from making "frankestein" like work...

I wanna try and keep this as cheap, as possible (possibly free), so going out and buying a case and powerful PSU isn't what i wanna do!

The computer will be a Duron 700 (probably @ 900), and a network card, an old vid card, and an old 250mb hard drive so i can run Seti on it, so nothing too power intensive!

You need to buy a new ATX power supply. You can't convert AT. Connectors are different and wiring a new plug can be tricky. Also, the power supplied to each rail is different.
