Differences between AMD X2s

Hello,

I tried searching for the different Core names and specs, but didn't have much luck finding information. I just want to make sure I am purchasing the correct CPU, since all three of these are fairly similar.

I have an existing 3000+ that was purchased last August, but I find my CPU is often at 99% when burning DVDs, or other general slowness when I am multitasking. I am looking to spend about $200-250 on a CPU and add a second gig of RAM at the same time. Can anyone give me their recommendation of which CPU I should pick up from Newegg?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 2.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor - OEM $199

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+(89W) Toledo 2.2GHz Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADV4400CDBOX - Retail $249

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Manchester 2.4GHz Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4600BVBOX - Retail $232

I was planning on purchasing a new Zalman heatsink and fan as well for this new purchase, so I don't know that retail / OEM makes a difference for me.

Any input would be appreciated.

If you're an overclocker, get the 89 watt 4400. If you aren't, get the 4600. If you're building a new system, get the E6400 or E6600.😉

What? I would certainly never recommend spending $50 extra on an 89W Toledo just 'cause it may overclock better. I'd go for either the 4400+ regular Toledo or the 4600+ Manchester. 2x1MB parts are a bit better than regular Manchesters at the same clock (something like 3-5% better overall, 7-10% in games) but the 4600+ is clocked 9% higher.

I went with the 4600. I have generic Corsair ValueRAM, so I probably wont try any high-end overclocking anyway.

You might be surprised. I have only Kingston Valueram and I still got 2.7GHz out of my 4200+ Manchester.

Thats why u use memory dividers. My comp is running happily at 2.8ghz with a divider which sets the ram to stock speed 🙂
I have 2 * 512 corsair value select, and 2 * 512 value ocz sticks

Yup. Cpu runs at 2.7GHz and ram runs at 193MHz (2.5-3-3-7) here.

I feel ignorant having to ask this, but do the lower-power usage X2s really OC significantly better? Can anyone link me to a review that includes OC'ing info? And are there any lower power versions of the 2x1meg cache parts?
