Difference from 128 -> 256 ram? IN WIN 2K

I have the system in my sig, and I mainly run Win 2k . I haven't booted into 98 since I installed 2k, about a week ago. I heard there was very little difference when using 98 SE, but what about Win2k? I must say, I love Win2k though! If you're thinking about upgrading, do! I haven't had a single regret.

Thanks

Edit: Made something bold, people were missing the point :\

Edit:

Ignore everything I said there, DOES GOING FROM 128 to 256 RAM IN WIN 2K MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Depends on your OS and the programs you run
Windows2000 will see performance increases if you run RAM intensive tasks like Photoshop

Win98/ME, almost no benefits.

Depends mostly on what type of applications you are running, but Win2k demands considerably more RAM than Win9x. Unless your running extremely memory dependant apps you likely won't see too much benefit in Win9X. Depending on what you do on the computer you could see anywhere from a huge difference to virtually no difference under Win2k.

With Win2000 yes, get more RAM.
Win2k will use like 90MB idle....
I only had 128MB and when I added more it was a big improvement.

I'd go for 256, hell go for 384MB...RAM is damn cheap right now

I am running a dual boot system and in win98, i only noticed a difference when loading games up. Like in Half life, my counter-strike levels loaded significantly faster. But besides that, nothing much.

You should see a pretty significant improvement, but if you're not sure just watch your swap file usage, or just your mem usage in the first place. if it's constantly over 128, 256 will be great for you.

Yes I would definitely recommend upgrading, why not add another 256MB RAM for about $150 more? Just do a search in the Hot Deals forum.

Oh yeah, in in Win2000 Pro I was assuming you wanted to use it for general purpose, including games and everything else.

When I had Win2000 on here I only had 128MB at the time, and I was OK as long as I didn't run games, which I didn't, I had 98SE for that.

With RAM as cheap as it is I'd get an extra 128MB or hell 256MB or hell even go for 512MB 🙂

For playing the latest and greatest 3D games, any OS will benifit from the RAM. 98, Me, or 2K, no matter what any of these guys might say. With 98 and Me, it mostly depends on how you have it configured..

Windows 2000 LOVES memory! But like I said, you'll notice it mostly in modern 3D games.

In Win98 the benefits in going from 128MB to 256MB of RAM are highly dependant upon the type of applications you run. I've personally seen tremendous benefits in programs such as PhotoShop and CorelDraw.

Win2K automatically benefit from the upgrade. In part this is because it has a bigger memory "footprint," i.e., as an OS it simply requires more RAM from the get-go. Second, Win2K manages memory better than Win9X.

Maximum PC covered this subject in their December issue; it's worth checking out. One of their conclusions:

<< Our tests suggest that 192MB of RAM ought to be sufficient for Windows 9x users, but to fully utilize the power of Windows 2000, go with at least 256MB. >>

Furthermore, as Noriaki pointed out, RAM is cheap right now so there's no reason not to have at least 256MB in your system. (I use Win98SE and Win2K. I have 384MB now but will upgrade to 512 total by the end of the month.)
