So I finally decided and definitely want a NVIDIA 680i SLI mb. From what I've read the EVGA is definitely the way to go (A1 rev). The problem is, I can get the XFX board for about $50 less.

Considering that both brands are NVIDIA partners and so both boards are "built by NVIDIA" are their really any differences between the two?

I've only found a few reviews on the XFX board and they seem to be quite good, but I just feel like I might be missing something here...

There are a few users who reported that the xfx 680i board generates a high-pitch sound while surfing the web. It doesn't come from the fans.

Get the evga one.

They should be pretty much the same board as they are the reference designs. Can you link us to both the models in question? There are several different versions of the EVGA board, some of which have the Quad-core and 1333FSB issues resolved(A1/T1) and some which do not(AR/TR). XFX might have something similar.

i was in the same situation when i was building my system a while ago (in sig). i choose the xfx board over the evga because it had a 30usd mir on it, which did come back. for my board, they were both using the reference design, so the difference didnt matter too much to me and i just got the one with the lower cost.

I have the evga and I really like it (only had it a few days). I don't know much about the xfx board, but I know the evga is basically nvidia reference with a few very minor improvements.

Here are the links:

XFX

EVGA

Also, I was pretty set on getting an e6750 and trying for 3.6ghz but now I'm thinking of getting a q6600. Do these boards still have problems overclocking quads, I'd be happy with about 3.2 ghz I guess. I plan on using a tuniq tower for cooling.

The EVGA seems to be in backorder just about everywhere, while newegg has the XFX for $170 after rebate. That just seems to good to pass up...

the xfx is also a reference board. pretty much the same as the evga except for the name. 3.2ghz should be guaranteed with the e6750 on a modern motherboard generally speaking. if you were curios, my xfx sli 680i LT, the slightly cut back version of that board, can do 400fsb easily, so 3.2 would be pretty easy to do on your e6750. i backed down my cpu from 3.6ghz since the extra voltage and heat i decided was not worth the 200mhz, but i did do 3.6ghz p95 dual instances 24hr stable. overall i think you should go for that board if you are doing sli, but if u only want to use a single card setup, it may be better to get an intel chipset like the p35 or x38/48 based motherboards.
