Does one need both on the system or do they both do the same thing?

Daemon Tools is simply a virtual CD program that can mount CD images

Alcohol 120% can do the same and more -- it can mount CD images, create them, and burn them.

Also keep in mind Daemon Tools is free to use, and Alcohol 120% is a commercial product. I've been a happy Alcohol 120% customer for about a year and a half.

Daemon tools is free, alcohol isn't, and the extra stuff alcohol does can be done by any burning program like nero anyway.

I have both. certain games won't emulate with alcohol so i need to DL the hack for DT. other cases it's vice versa. So having a copy of both is your best bet. other than that, I'd say daemon tools FTW. Most of the cracks can be had at gamecopyworld.com (not condoning game copying)
