Difference between Standby and Hibernation?

If I remember correctly standby suspends to RAM, Hibernation suspends to HDD.

Hibernate - memory saved to disk and your computer turns off. It's faster than booting normally though, because it only needs to reload your memory from the hard disk.
Standby - low power mode, everything stays where it is. Faster than recovering from hibernate, but uses power.

I use standby for my laptop since I found that it takes less power to keep it in standby for 2 hours than it takes to start up from hibernate. Otherwise for the long haul, I just shut off.

Hibernate saves your ram to the hard drive and completely turns the computer off. Standby saves your memory by keeping the motherboard on. Just your optical drives turn off.
