Difference between specialized server motherboard and normal motherboard?

As the titled said, what is the big difference between the two? Is there any noticeable difference when running a server with one as opposed to the other? Thanks for the inputs.

PCI-64 slots, dual Xeon or AMD MP support, more DIMM slots. Other than those extra features, no.

For a "low end" server for under $1,000 (faster than a $10,000 server from 3 years ago), no real difference.

For 1 CPU and up to 2 GB RAM you might as well use a desktop board.
