Alright I always knew that having a soundcard is better than any on-board sound that's out there. So.. I went out, spent 20 bucks.. and honestly didn't notice any difference. Would I notice the difference between a 20 dollar sound card and a 200 dollar sound card? If so.. how exactly?

Also, can not having a good sound card create lag in games?

Most onboard audio today are good enough for most stuff. But I believe a $200 sound card have DTS or whatnots, and yea, they will sound differently from onboard audio.

What speakers do you have? What sound card did you buy? What motherboard do you have?

Yeah, we need more information, but in general $20 isn't much for a sound card. Your onboard sound sis probably just as good or even better.

Check out the Chaintech AV710. It's gotta be the best soundcard I've owned, for only $30.

With cpus today, lag in games from sound shouldn't be a problem.

I would say the max you would want to spend on a sound card is maybe around a used SB audigy 2 ZS
