Ramen is real food that is actually intended for use with vegetables and such.

Top ramen feeds hungry college kids on a budget.

That's how I think of it, anyway.

Got some real ramen (miso ramen with pork) two days ago at "Japan Town" in the Cambridge area. Was pretty good, but the flavor is certainly different.

top ramen doesn't have any spices, it's just the flavoring (powdered chicken/beef/shrimp "parts") and salt.

there are 2 kinds of ramed you can get in the store, Top Ramen (made by nissen) and Maruchan made by Maruchan, who does not appear to have a site

Top Ramed is the Origional, started in the 70s, the both taste exactly the same, however they all dont have teh same flavors, Top Ramen has Cajun Chicken and Maruchan does not,

ive been eating both of them for like 15 years, its great as a soupe by itself, as a side dish, and good when you add things to it like veggies and such

the TRUE ramen brands are the best... my mom buys this chinese brand with beef flavoring that beats Top Ramen and Maruchan by miles

Maruchan is nasty! I would say eat some real ramen but since you're on a budget, I suggest you eat some real top ramen. :p

Try any Asian brand and you'll see how much better it is compared to the Maruchan brand.

The asian brand ramen are definitely tasty, the sesame chicken kind from Chinatown is amazing. Comes with a little packet of sesame, sesame oil, and flavoring packet. You know its hardcore when you get 3+ flavor packs :D

There's a Korean brand with bits of seafood in it and lots of hot stuff and I've only seen it in Korean stores and 99 Ranch. That one's my favorite

As I can neither read nor speak Korean, I don't know the name but it comes in an orange packet

I never use the nasty-ass MSG+Salt spice packets, but I often use those prepackaged Ramen noodles in other dishes. They are better than so-called "Chinese Noodles" and they only cost a nickel.

Yea.. I've tried some chinese and korean ramen brands that are a thousand times better than the marauchan/top ramen stuff. They both came in these HUGE bowl like packages with super colorful artwork around and they had multiple packets inside with spicy pepper flakes, sasame seeds..etc. What a difference..granted they were way more expensive but its worth it.
