Hi all,

I guess this has been reviewed over and over again, but I can't seem to find an old thread on it. Is there a difference between OEM and Retail when you're considering CPUs? I've heard there is a difference in the video card realm.

I'm going to purchase a Thunderbird 1Ghz chip, and the guy from the store says no difference, but he sounded a little dubious.

Thanks,
blues

In regard to CPU's , OEM usually comes without a fan and also a lesser warranty

With other hardware OEM is usually the bare necessities...drivers,hardware and no pretty box

Some believe better quality - I don't think that's true.

Main difference is you get a 3yr warranty and a HS+fan

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer.

It should be the equivalent of a retail version except you dont get the warranty.
OEM is usually for corporations who buy large quantities for pre-assembly before going out to consumers.
