Difference between Mobile A64 and regular A64?

I did some searching on the internet and on this forum, but I didn't get very solid results.

Does anyone know if Mobile A64 are equal in speed to the regular A64? Does the ~20watt decrease in power cripple the chip's speed?

Since I haven't seen any regular A64 AR revision cores, are the AR cores strictly mobile A64? What are the benefits of the AR revision over the AP? The DTR A64's look like a good deal, but I can't help thinking that these mobile cores are somehow slower than their desktop AP variants.

No heatspreader (better cooling) seems to be the only advantage I see. All A64s have the lower multipliers unlocked (for Cool n Quiet).

There is no FSB. They're pretty much identical.

The RAM speed depends on the RAM used and what the BIOS allows.
EDIT: It's 1.45V

Thnks for the replies, what about clock for clock speed? Is the mobile 3200+ any slower than the A64 3200+?

I don't think AMD will give u a free lunch, by charging u for the same price as a regular desktop A64 3200+ and giving u less heat dissipation, a new core, and adjustable multiplier.... would they?

No, the chips are the same, just no heatspreader on the mobile version.

The chips are EXACTLY identical.

the mobile one puts out a little less heat than the desktop one and has no heatspreader.

the default voltage is the same as well.

possibly good overclockers such as the mobile xp's....

no way to really tell unless someone gets one and tries it out

2. Unlocked multiplier to take advantage of powernow in laptops.
3. No heat spreader (which I think is a mistake...I've seen enough retards crack core here)

*4. maybe we can't get then once AMD sees no ones buying desktop versions in the enthusiast community. And only issues them to system builders
*5. Newegg will charge a premium as the sole suplier.

The multplier is only TOP locked on ALL A64s. Cool n Quiet is basically PowerNow! on the desktop, and needs an unlocked multiplier (lower than the default).

You can lower them as mentioned on most boards, and to overcome the bios lacking in upper multis you can just use ClockGen :beer: I tried to buy one when they were OOT but now I'm waiting for someone to link results of them overclocking well and indeed having higher multi access before adding to cart So Shim, we are making you buy one

link they have power states with the 2nd dropping speed 200mhz and setting vcore@1.4v and then the 800mhz power state with the vcore@1.3v there's also a min. power state of 1.1v 1000mhz

As I said these arn't real mobiles. Look on page 18 and 19 for the "real deal" and what I'm waiting on. These are Desk top replacements which while listed under mobile carry the exact same specs as thier desktop copunterparts.

Buy the regualar 'nothing to see here' other than a potential cracked core on a expensive processor. JMO
