Difference between 'Manage Programs' button and 'game detection'

Logitech setpoint has a button on the main tab to allow specific settings for individual programs. There is also a tab for game detection. how does setpoint know what a game is? why should game detection be used if the manage programs button allows equal or greater flexibility?
