Difference between Generic and name brand cases?

theres a comp store next to me here that sell some generic and a few name brand cases.

im wondering if there is a big difference between the 2. becasue i want to keep the cost down

any suggestion?

It doesnt look like they carry name brand cases 😀 All generic to me. Inwin and supercase do not qualify as "brand names" 😉

The biggest difference is build quality. Second and third are features and layout. Brand names, to name a few: Addtronics, Chenming (Antec SX series, Enermax, etc...), Lian Li, CoolerMaster, Chenbro, Silverhawk, Aopen.

When building a budget system, I never skimp on the cooling (which includes the case). A very nice Enermax branded case (similar to Antec SX1030) can be had for $99 from www.newegg.com. I used these cases for ~$2,000 workstations, although they are great for budget boxes. Size does matter, as it allows for better cable management and airflow.

Generic cases skimp on features and quality. I have a generic that does not have m,uch for fan expansion in it, or drive expanability. I got one of them antec/cheiftec/enermax cases, a 1030b from new egg. I love it, only thing is its laking a mobo tray🙁. Very nice, very sturdy, sorta heavy, but I love it🙂

generic cases often have flimsier material, inafequate cooling, and worst of all, cheap power supplies. I actually like SuperCases, as long as you replace the power supplies. (they're Deers, which are known to fail quite often)

Since when did people start catergorizing Inwin cases in the generic realm?

inwin are a branded case cus they make their own stuff
antec and enermax's 10x0 series are re-branded chenbro cases.
chenbro make very good generic cases and just starting to market their cases under the chenbro name for the consumer market.
supercase are just crap. they are made for the "mom and pop store oem market" some of their cases cost under $20 when bought in bulk wholesale. they do make 1 or 2 decent qulaity cases. but they are the same price as a good "branded" case.
inwin and enlight make the best value for money cases around. compucase also make some very sturdy cases for under $60 you can get a CompuCase CI-6606B Mid-Tower - Black and a Enermax 350w Whisper Power Supply for about $100 from so trick computers. i used this combo for my flamejob case mod and i was very happy with it plus it is very quiet with good temps. it is also very freindly to modding.

Nice info LordPheaton - I've been building for years and have used more cheap cases than you can shake a stick at. I always highly recommend the best, IMHO Enlight and InWin cases are always at the top of my list. They have been around back then and are still around now, they speak for themselves. Long before this slew of cheapie mainstream cases reared their ugly head, but hey if somebody wants a cheap case for modding, go for it.

NewCompGeek: The store near you lists an Inwin S500 case at a reasonable Price considering no shipping. It is an excellent case with good cooling capabilities. Unless you need more bays, you can purchase locally, get a great case, save money, and gain points at your local store (if it's that sort of place).

The Inwin S500 is not a "generic" case in any way, shape or form (IMHO). Its quality and cooling ability is parallel to that of Antec (Chieftec/Enermax/Chenming) SX-600/800/1000/1200 series cases which are also excellent.

I use one Inwin S500 and 1 Antec SX1030 at home.

A good quality case with good cooling characteristics is an important part of having a stable dependable system!

If you want more bays, Newegg.com sells Chieftec SX1030 equivalent for $87 shipped. Nice case!

I also don't think of Inwin as a generic case. Flowerman, what qualifies a case as "generic" in you opinion? What are the "brabd name" cases then?
