Difference between G92 and G94?

Supposedly the 9600GT is based on the "G94" architecture.

Anyone know how this compares to the 8800GT G92 architecture?

Shader and TMU count. That is all.

They are essentially the same chip and architecture.

G92GTS has 128SP and 64tmu. G92, G84, G94 can do 8 texture per clock for every 16SP. So 64 TMU for g92GTS and 56 TMU for 8800gt.

A G94 has 64SP and 32tmu. So 32 textures per clock...

There must be somthing diffrent or new because the 9600GT is keeping up with 8800GT and beating it with AA and AF enabled all on half the shaders and tmu's.

8800gt still wins. 9600gt is somewhere in the line of 3850 and 3870. SP isn't the holy grail of performance although you are seeing more and more shader heavy games.

8800gt is not as efficient as you think. Chunk of that texture fillrate wasted on a 256bit memory bus.

As for AA these Geforce dx10 cards do AA the old fashion way. Through pipes. 9600gt does well because it has same ROP count and although smaller TMU count it can still hang with 8800gt.

have you read the review Azn? the 9600GT sometimes looses to the 3870 by a percent or two... usually gets a a percent or two under the GT, and sometimes even wins over the 8800GT... to say its in line with the 3850 is a joke. Its in a whole different league.

I have searched around a little and couldn't find any benchmarks to support this.

Where did you see it ?

I've seen 2 reviews so far. Tweaktown and PConline.

Only time 9600gt can hang is when 8800gt is memory bandwidth starved.

In the tweaktown review they had a OC version of 9600gt where it was clocked @ 650/1650/1800.. A 8800gt is no better in memory bandwidth nor pixel fillrate at those clock speeds. Only thing it would have advantage is when a game requires more shader power.

I've said 9600gt is somewhere between 3850 and 3870 and sorry no joke. Sure 9600gt does better in AA since HD series does AA through shader but in raw performance they are about the same.
