Difference between EEC registered RAM and non-registered?

Any issues with motherboard compatibility for the EEC registered RAM? Someone on Ebay is selling 512 stick of EEC registered ram for 120+shipping. Might be a good deal, but not sure what eec registered ram is for.

It's ECC.

Most PC board doesn't accept ECC DDR. One of the exception is Tyan Tiger MP. ECC is a high level error correction system used on servers and home users do not need them.
