Difference between DVI - A and DVI - I ?

I was looking at the NEC FP955, and it says it has a DVI-A port. If you have a video card like GeForce3 with DVI, will this work? Most of these cards don't state DVI-A or DVI - I. They just say DVI. Also, is DVI considered better than a BNC connector?

my monitor has a analog and a dvi-v, and when i brought the radeon all in wonder, which has a dvi-i, i didn't know if it would work, but it did, i asked around what dvi-i and dvi-v stands for but never got a response. I just know that dvi-i works with dvi-v, so dvi-a should work with dvi-i. setting the monitor to be in digital mode stinks, I bought this viewsonic with the digital option thinking digital is better than analog because it's "digital", well if you have used any emulator such as neoragex or final burn, and familiar with the term scanlines, just imagine digital view as a display without scanlines, and analog monitors are like displays with 50% scanlines enabled, imagines without scanlines looks like a solid block of color without lines inbetween and boy does it look ugly. I wish i never paid for a monitor with this digital signal feature and just bought normal "19 monitor.

I believe DVI-A is an old output as most LCD Monitors out there today output either DVI-I or DVI-D. Now, DVI-I accepts analog/digital mode as DVI-D only accepts Digital Mode.
The Hercules Geforce 2 64MB DVI-I only accepted cables that were DVI-I (Analog/Digital). My Geforce 3 accepted only DVI-D Cable so I had to purchase a DVI-D Cable for my LCD Monitor to the LCD.
