DB - Goku when he is young.
DBZ - When he is all grown up.
DBGT - When he is older with grand kids, and turns in to a kid by an accedent.

At what point does it stop being about looking for the dragonballs, and more about fighting in tournaments?

Arg! While DB and DBZ ended 10 years ago, it was a part of my childhood so don't compare it to crap that ends with -mon.

It's not much of a series compared to a lot of things...in fact, later on, it kinda sucks but I grew up watching that. Pokemon doesn't even count as anime...or even a show. Geez...

do yourself a favor and read the dragon ball Z manga instead of watching the show.

Thats the dubbed version. Dragon balls is a very old anime. Most of the Anime in cartoon network is old (guessing here cause I dont get that channel, but i know they show dbz and used to show gundam and excaflowne).

they do have quite a few orignal cartoons on the network though... power puff girls, dexter's lab, johhny bravo, justice league, etc.. other's that dont come to mind right now..

but was just visiting their site, and they have some clips of Star Blazers! dunno if they will start showing them on the network itself, but they have the opening theme song to it.. that is awesome! brings back memories when i used to watch it. i loved that cartoon... dont remember what it was about, just remember the huge cannon in the front of the ship..

anyways, hope they start showing it. :)

it never really stops being about looking for the dragonballs, because the dragonballs figure into every story arc somehow... but in DragonBall, the first ARC (with Pilaf) was completely just finding the balls to make a wish. After that, the dragonballs were a secondary in every arc, right thru to GT. All of DragonBall Z was about a conflict of some sort, with the dragonballs secondary. Only the first ARC of GT was primarily searching for the dragonballs. After that, the remaining three arcs the dragonballs were secondary.

hmm, doesnt the last part of GT mainly focus on the dragonballs.. since ya know, they go evil due to the abuse of using them..

I find Dragonball the original far better than DBZ. DBZ is just all talk. They talk for like 45 minutes than finally fight.

Dragonball is a 150+ episode adventure. Dragonball Z is a 200+ episode long fight scene. Dragonball GT is 60~70 episodes of crap that was thrown together after Akira Toriyama gave up on the series. The original was loosely based on the Son Goku: The story of the Monkey King (a chinese book that also goes by many other names. Just look up The Story of the Monkey King and you should find it).
