difference between 60gxp and 75 gxp?

is there any significant difference between IBM's 60gxp and 75gxp models? specifically, on their website it has that 60gxp models have 40mb/s sustained transfer rate, and 75gxp models have 37mb/s. this difference is probably due to 60gxp's higher density etc etc blah blah, but isn't the 60gxp LOWER model? thus meaning 75gxp should OUTPERFORM 60gxp, yet their website claims otyherwise? what's up, does anyone know anything about this? just trying to reassure myself in buying a 20 gig 60gxp so i can finally set up that RAID....

60gxp is newer than the 75gxp. The 60 series has 20GB platters while the 75 series has 15GB platters.

It's my understanding that the 60 & 75 refer to the largest size drive in the line, but don't quote me on that!

The 60GXP is the NEWER model, the 75GXP is the older model and no longer being manufactured. The number at the beginning simply indicates the maximum drive size in that family.

The 75GXP uses 15GB platters, while the 60GXP uses 20GB platters.

You can find a detailed analysis and comparison of both drives over at Storage Review.

I have both of them in My Computer. And I can tell the difference in real life. 60GXP is a bit quiter than 75GXP. I can't really notice if 60GXP is faster though.

Dont worry, the 60GXP is the newer model as people has mentioned. The 75GXP have had problems though, so getting a 60GXP is the route

I wouldnt buy either until they have fixed the reliability problem. And theres no way to know if the 60 GXP is any more reliable since its brand new....

all else equal, the density of the platters of the 60gxp means that it should outperform the 75s.

but not all is equal.
