what card would be an ideal card that can hold its own against my current x1900xt? im currently looking at the eVGA 7900GTX, and maybe other brands. essentially this is a computer thaat has to perform, its not quite a server like all of my others, but i dont want to spend an arm and a leg.

i do plan on putting on an aftermarket cooler, uber zalman like every1 else.

i might go sli in the future, might not, (if i upgrade from the P5W, it doesnt OC my x6800 very well compared to some other boards ive tried)...

my 2 main concerns are 1, it has to be better than my current msi x1900xt, im pleased in, but it has some querks. and 2, is there any difference at all from different makers of cards of same clock speed, not including bundled software...

any suggestions on brand and would the 7900gtx be the way to go?

If you already have an x1900xt and plan to put a Zalman cooler on it, do you really want to upgrade? You're solving the noise issue, and...

Current high end cards aren't going to yield dramatic improvements over a nicely clocked x1900xt. The GTX, nor the x1950 are going to blow your socks off. Double check current benchmarks

Slap a Zalman cooler on that puppy, OC it, and hold out for next gen cards. Sell the x1900xt on ebay when the time comes...

What kind of "querks" are you talking about, and have you determined the cause of those querks? A 7900gtx will be a sidegrade, and I sure hope you're not into Oblivion, because then it will be a downgrade. Maybe you'd want to spring for the 7950gx2, then you can count on having increased performance across the board.

TSCrv just use the X1900XT till early November , Then buy a G80. G80 production start next month... and should be on self early next month. You just have to wait for 1month and a half for DX10 Nvidia Card.

Stay away from Albatron. From what Ive read, they have the WORST cust. service and reliability of all Nvidia manufacturers

I've never heard of Jetway, Jaton, and Albatron. :) I would say they suck ass!

2nded. Your XT is fairly equivalent to a 7900GTX. A 7950GX2 is faster but will be a lot more money (~$500). What issues are you having with your XT?

querks, well sometimes with older games if i quit, (or newer games and end task) it makes it so i have to pan around to my desktop, a 1600x1200 desktop on what looks liek a 800x600 screen.... also when i had a crossfire setup it was a total nightmare, from this thread and decided that it simply wasnt the headache...

also no matter what i do when i have CCC installed my system acts wierd, like panning no matter what i do, wont oc at all, basic crap.. (reminds me of what happens when you get a guy who some old equipment off of ebay and calls himself a VoIP provider...lol)

budget, none, as i allready have an x6800, and a lot of commercial grade goodies (it looks out of place with all my other rackmount servers tho, 4u vs 2u).. actually i cant say no budjet, as all of this money i actually have to make, and i make peanuts as a server repair tech (but 3 times more than any of my friends)... basically i wont be stupid and pay for an extreme edition, but something that would be right below it.

hmm G80, see this is y i come to AT, as i had no clue. i read a few articals here and there but cant find any roadmaps or stuff like that.

also i have a guy that wants to buy my x1900xt off of me, meaning i lose zero money, (only time for the aftermarket, and the stupid crossfire troubleshooting)

any other questions i missed?

i was thinking of the gx2, but i read that many are having some issues with it, and the fact that i cant put an aftermarket on it sucks... but now with info that something else might be comming out soon, i might want to borrow a friends card untill i get the new stuff... eek a x850 or something for a month...

Grab the EVGA 7950GX2 currently the fastest single slot PCI-e card.

By doing this you get the chance to step up to a rumoured nov/dec launch of G80 hence 8800GTX/GT.
Although the cooling solution cannot be changed to a 3rd party cooler, it can however be cooled by watercooling thanks to DD's waterblocks for the GX2s. But fact is the cooling solution used can get hot, but does its job. Stays silent during idle, and peak around 51~53 dbs at load.

OR

If you must change to a GTX, i suggest EVGA for its warranty and step up program.

People want to go heaven, but they don't want to die.
They will if they want to go to heaven ;)

The question is, will they die or will death have to kill them? But that's getting into Tolstoy.

Some have issues with them, some don't. This is true for pretty much every peice of hardware. Of course, if you're concerned about coolers and such, both the stock 7900GTX and X1950XTX coolers are good enough to not need aftermarket cooling. If you want the best single card without the possible problems of a dual-GPU setup, an X1950XTX is it. However, the GX2 will outpace it in frames for the most part. Sometimes the gap will be big, sometimes not. Either way, the GX2 has the advantage as far as future upgrades, but the curse of potentially worse troubleshooting.

I know exactly what you mean. When I fried my X1900XTX, I thought I could ride out until the new cards hit with an X1900GT. It just wasn't the same and while I did get really good performance out of it, I just missed having a true X1900 core so much. Your patience may be better than mine though and you might not care to go a month with an X8** seires card.

If you have been planning on riding on an X8** series, why not just hold on to the X1900 until you can get the new stuff? Is your friend giving you a time limit or something?
