Depends on which X-Gamer/Mp3 you are talking about... There are the SB X-Gamer/MP3 5.1 which can decode 5.1 surround sound, Live Value would not be able to do that...

If you are talking about the normal X-Gamer/MP3, I belive it's only software, but not entirely sure...

The "5.1" variants of the X-Gamer/MP3+/Platinum do not have onboard 5.1 decoders. They just fixed the problems older cards had with the digital out (it was really tricky to get the digital out to send a DD or dts signal to a receiver or decoder).

OEM Live! cards (often marketed under the "Value" name) are identical to the retail cards except they often come with no software and they also lack the SPDIF CD input header. I've seen a few OEM cards that have the yellow digital out jack on the backplate though.

for us market, 3 different ages:
--------------------------------
SB Live
SB Live Value
--------------------------------
SB Live MP3+
SB Live X-Gamer
SB Live Platinum
--------------------------------
SB Live MP3+ 5.1
SB Live X-Gamer 5.1
SB Live Platinum 5.1
--------------------------------
for first age, live and live value is quite different, live comes with spdif in/out panel and live value's spdif header has fewer pins. for second age, all cards are identical, added spdif out jack, just different software bundle, Platinum comes with Livedrive, optional for mp3+ and x-gamer.

for the so called "value" oem card, not necessary identical to the retail card, could be missing digital cd-in and ......

You just stoped talking in the middle of a sentence. Anyone know where he lives and can check on him?
