DIF LanParty BIOS question

I recently put together an AMD 3200 Venice/DFI Lanpary Ultra D/ATI X850XT system....and love it. It runs smooth and has been relatively trouble free.

I noticed when I initially was configuring the system with an old original copy of Windows XP pro that I did not have USB support at the BIOS level -prior to loading into Windows. This has caused me some headache as I keep having to load a PS/2 keyboard to get any work done in the BIOS.

After getting everything setup in Windows and all the drivers in place -I noticed that USB support is still only available after Windows starts loading -again making it difficult to do anything in BIOS. I have messed with all the USB settings in the BIOS and played with the jumpers on the board itself and cannot seem to figure it out. To make matters worse, the handbook for the DFI Lanparty is about as basic as I have ever seen with no information whatsoever.

Can anyone get me pointed in the right direction with this? I just want to get USB support at BIOS level so that my keyboard loads up when the computer initially boots.

Have you done a clean install after upgrading?

If not then I suggest you do a clean install of your OS.


Also did you install the nforce unified drivers?

Yes, and yes to both. Clean install and latest nForce drivers.

Not sure what the dealio is. I installed a very old copy of Win XP Pro and after a great deal of troubleshooting realized I needed SP2 to get USB to work at all. The nForce drivers apparently will not support USB properly in XP if you do not have SP2 installed. I planned to install SP2, but just not right away.

After figuring all of this out, I reinstalled Windows XP Pro again and did SP2 right after. USB now works, but it only works after Windows in fully started. BIOS still ignores it even though I have enabled all the USB settings I can find. It is just weird.

Aside from this little annoyance, it has been a great system. Rock solid and stable in gaming all around.

there is definately a setting in the bios to enable usb keyboard & mouse because I have a usb mouse and it works in dos (gost boot disk) I cant reboot just now but there is definately a bios setting to enable it.

Ok I just went in my bios ....

Here's where it's located.

go under Intergrated peripherals

then scroll down until you see.

USB KB/Storeage Support ---- here you have Enable & disable.
right under it if you have a usb mouse and want to use in dos it's where you enable it too.

i have a usb keyboard on my dfi nf4 as well, works in memtest, had to configure it in the bios

Bad news for me...none of the suggestions seem to work.

This is really bizarre. I have ALL the USB setting enable and I have changed them to just about every combination possible. I have also switched out USB keyboards to rule out the keyboard as being the problem.

The bottom line is that I only have USB support at the OS level. I can't use a USB keyboard in BIOS. I wonder is there is a BIOS flash that might fix it...but no one else seems to be having any problems with DFI Lanparty boards (at least in my search on the Internet).

If anyone else has a suggestion...please fire away.

I am using a Saitek gaming keyboard/XP Pro/Pheonix BIOS.

Did you set the jumper correctly on the board? Get the full .pdf manual from DFI's site also.

Jumper! No....! The manual sucks...and I couldn't seem to find on DFI website. I will look again.

Is there a jumper that might be casuing this problem?

....nevermind....I found the manual.

What's wrong with using PS/2? It frees up a USB port doesn't it?

Actually...it probably wouldn't be such a big deal, but my keyboard is USB only and the little PS/2 to USB converter that I have from another keyboard doesn't work going that direction (USB to PS/2).

The other thing is that it just bugs me that I can't figure it out.

The manual I downloaded appears to be the same very basic manual that came with the board itself.

I did mess with the USB jumper settings during the build. Maybe I will try again... All it seems to show is USB wake up mode for the jumper settings (to bring the computer out of hibernation mode with a mouse or keyboard).
