Everything causes cancer. As long as you don't drink a case of diet soda a day I'm sure there are plenty of other things higher up on the "stuff that'll kill you" list.

I don't think it's good for you.. so I avoid it. Plus, I don't like the taste.

But it's not the killer poison those fringe sites make it out to be. There are far too many people that injest HUGE quantities of it.

aspartame is disgusting anyways. gimme good old fashioned sugah!

Hehe, I'm guessing that in this country, sugar consumption is far more to blame than artificial sweetner for health problems

Exactly. My girlfriend's grandma was trying to tell my gf that birth control causes cancer and she should get off of it.

apartame hinders my memory when I drink it everyday in diet sodas so I avoid it. No way will I go near sucralose garbage either.

Google sucralose and you'll find plenty of concerns about it.

Recent studies have found saccharin to be non-carcinogenic as well. You'll notice the cancer warning on the packets has been removed.

I noticed this...

Why did they think it was carcinogenic before? What changed?

i'm sure there are tens of thousands of diabeties cases from sugar and overeating..and basically no deaths from aspartame.

If memory serves, the original study had shown that rats fed a mixture of Saccharin and Cyclamates experienced an increased number of tumors. In response, the US banned cyclamates while Canada banned saccharin, both based on this study.

Subsequent studies showed that saccharin alone had this effect on rats, but that cyclamates alone did not.

However, most recently I'd read that the tumorogenic agent was a metabolite of saccharin produced through a metabolic pathway that rats have, but that humans do not. If that's so, then neither saccharin nor cyclamates produce tumors in humans.

It never was in the first place, only in mice that took about 50 times the daily max for a month or something. 60 Minutes did an investigative story on it years ago on the corrupt influence that got it labeled with cancer warnings.

That's what I heard too.

Apparently the human equivalent would be drinking a swimming pool full of saccharin-saturated water or some such excessive amount.

I have maybe 1-3 packets a day for my coffee and protein shakes.
