Diesel in a gas engine?

So my fiance just put about 1.3 gallons of diesel in her 2001 Civic before realizing what she had done. Is it safe to fill it up with regular unleaded and "dilute" the diesel out, or should she wait until she can syphon the diesel out? I would think that she should wait until she can syphon it, but she's a rush, and if she can run it for about 2 miles we could syphon it out later. Just a quick question.

Diesel is very bad, but may be OK of diluted say 10 to 1.

Why dont you call a shop and ask? Many have Saturday hours. I am sure you could find one to call

may as well just piss in the gas tank and see if that runs too while we're at it

actually i have no idea, I was under the impression the whole time that if you put diesel in a gas engine, it'll crap out on you

Syphon all the fuel out. Refill with high octane gasoline.

There will be problems if the diesel gets into the fuel system.

I think it's ok if a lil bit of diesel gets into a gas car, however, gas into diesel is bad because gas is more volatile than diesel. I could be wrong though.

Well, I called Autozone, and they gave me a resounding "get it out now" before I could even finish my question. So I guess that means I get to stop working on my dissertation, drive 15 miles, and syphon some diesel out. Yippee! All in the name of love.

It will probably run if diluted although it will smoke like a bytch. Not sure if it will do any damage.

I've seen pumps with a button that selects the fuel grade. I said I'd better not ever see one with a deisel button because the hoses always carry some... But I did. I guess they think it's insignificant, but what if I was filling up one of the pint-sized gas cans for a tiller / mower / trimmer / blower?

where i live the diesel nozzles are smaller & everything is GREEN

I think the diesel would damage O2 sensors and possibly the cat and clog the injectors. 1.3 gallons is sorta a lot of diesel.

At BP, everything is green. She told me that the nozzle didn't fit in all the way, but it fit in enough to pump some in. She had a momentary lapse of intelligence apparently.

In a fairly new Civic with a 13 gallon tank.

if it was just 1.3 not a problem....fill it and you may see some smoke in the exhaust.

Diesel and unleaded mix well so it should get you into a decent mix assuming you have about a 10 gallon tank or larger in the honda.

It's not going to blow up anything....the worst possible bet is a fuel filter getting clogged (doubtful if more gas comes through it will clean it) and fouled plugs which again is doubtful unless you were attempting to run only diesel for several minutes/miles.....

The nozzle should not have fit her tank (unleaded would fit a diesel tank though and this is bad).....however rare instances of a wrong fill happens or contamination.

Hmm, they should make them completely different. Make one a circle, and make one an oval. That way you could never get the wrong one. Maybe paint the gas fuel tank opening red, and have the gas pumps red, and paint the diesel opening blue. Then put diesel in blue pumps.

That'd be kinda hard to do, seeing as how I got it out about an hour and a half ago. :p

Ah.

I just saw the title and the "put diesel in a Civic" and responded instincitvely.

Now that you've fixed that issue, let's move on to the next.

Pics?
